Youth of Unity
Lesson Resources
We reccomend using a basic format for YOUers and sponsors when making lesson plans. Here is a format suggestion:
You can download a good lesson structure here.
Get more ideas from the Chapter Reports from Bi-Regi 2009.
An Example of a Good Lesson Plan
Prayer
ALWAYS START WITH PRAYER!! Anytime your YOU meets-- start with prayer. We have some prayers listed -- but you can create your own with your YOUers.
Something Good that happened this week/A check-in of some sort
This is a good way to go around the room-- and see how everyone has been this last week. This means that people can introduce themselves-- in a quick way that does not disrupt your lesson.
Daily Word
Always a good thing to have-- the Daily Word is a good good way to connect with Unity-- and set the tone for the day-- and the meditation. Try to get a YOUer to read this -- if you are doing the lesson-- or have it be someone -- other than the person doing the lesson.
Meditation
Getting into the space of silence and oneness-- always makes people more open to the spiritual goodness to come.
Lesson
There are a TON of ideas of what you can do here. Always be sensitive to what your YOUers are going through-- and be willing to talk about burning desires-- be flexible, but also realize your place.
Announcements (fundraisers etc)
A time for announcements-- although this is NOT THE TIME FOR A BUSINESS MEETING. It is, however, good to have people have the information.
Closing Prayer or Closing Circle
Something to keep the energy the same-- and this can be a strong tradition for your group. If you are praying for growth in your chapter- this can be an easy time to do that-- but either not completing the circle, or by just praying for them. This is also another chance for involve a YOUer-- (as all parts of lessons really are) -- who may not have said much during this particular meeting.
